Inuyasha and the gang have arrived at Tsubaki’s temple, but they are too late to stop her from setting a long-trapped demon free.
Original Air Date: 18 Mar 2002, Streamed on: Hulu
Kaede reveals that Kikyo was chosen over Tsubaki as the custodian of the Shikon jewel, explaining Tsubaki’s hatred.
Kagura steps out of the shrine, followed by a tall demon samurai. If this is the titular giant ogre, it is smaller than you’d think. It blocks Tetsusaiga with its sword, then Kagura joins the fight by repeating the same two attacks in turn.
Kagome disrupts Kagura’s assault, and Inuyasha nails the samurai with a wind scar attack. With the ogre gone before the 10-minute mark, I feel like the episode title is a little off. Perhaps there will be a flashback.
OH, MY! Apparently, that wasn’t the ogre because Tsubaki just absorbed the real ogre and its power into her cursed eye. Now she’s a giant ogre, and she’s now larger than you’d think.
The dark priestess is overflowing with demonic power, so much so that she can block Tetsusaiga’s wind scar attack!
Miroku tries a wind tunnel, but Tsubaki attacks before it can work. Kagome’s arrow causes minimal damage, so Inuyasha tries a flying sword attack. The dark priestess swats him away like a fly.
She is now using her eye like Miroku’s wind tunnel and plans to consume Inuyasha with it. The continued battle breaks her focus, and Tsubaki finally unleashes an attack that allows Inuyasha to counter with the backlash wave!
One of Naraku’s bees flies out of her eye with the Shikon jewel, but Kagura kills it and takes the jewel for herself.
Kikyo, who was apparently watching this whole time, reveals that Tsubaki’s obsession with the jewel doomed her to fail.

When the red and white priestesses wake up, Miroku asks them if they will bear his children, but miraculously no harm comes to him this time. When they find out that Shippo was taking care of them, they have a little cuddle party with him and Kilala.
