Inuyasha has had it with Tetsusaiga’s weight gain, so he goes to visit Totosai’s workshop. Seems like this Ryukotsusei guy may be involved at some point, too.
Original Air Date: 3 Dec 2001, Streamed on: Hulu
Inuyasha tells Totosai that he wants to master Tetsusaiga, so the blacksmith reveals that Inuyasha must destroy the dormant demon Ryukotsusei. He says the sword is heavy because Inuyasha’s fang is not as powerful as his father’s fang. By destroying the demon, Inuyasha’s fang will grow more powerful, therefore Tetsusaiga will become lighter.
As Inuyasha sets out to find his father’s old enemy, Naraku watches through Kanna’s magic mirror and decides to use Ryukotsusei against Inuyasha.
Inuyasha reaches the Valley of Ryukotsusei — who turns out to be quite a large fellow — but a Naraku puppet got there first. The puppet dissolves the claw that was keeping the huge dragon demon asleep, and as Ryukotsusei wakes up, the demon puppet narcs on Inuyasha as the son of the demon who defeated him.
Inuyasha goes for a jog on Ryukotsusei’s back, and the demon starts burping hadoukens through the valley. Inuyasha strikes Ryukotsusei where his father’s claw had left a scar, but it has no effect. The dragon burps out one more hadouken.
Myoga reveals that Inuyasha’s father died as a result of his fight against Ryukotsusei, but this does not scare him. Instead, it rallies him.
Totosai reveals to the gang, while Inuyasha is not present, that Inuyasha will need to use his sword’s ultimate technique — the backlash wave — to defeat his father’s old foe.
Tetsusaiga falls from Inuyasha grasp, and he starts to transform again. Kagome and the gang arrive just as he opens his blood-red eyes.
